Artist 2017: Jane Carr
Jane Carr: I have been painting, sculpting and printing professionally for over fifty years, with my first invitational show in 1966 at the John Slade Ely House in New Haven, CT. After graduating with a BFA from the Philadelphia College of Art (now the University of the Arts), I enrolled in the Masters program in sculpture at the Yale University School of Art & Architecture to study with Jimmy Rosati and Bernard Chaet.
In the late nineties I fell in love with and moved to the village of Treadwell NY. I’ve put away my sculpture tools and now I am a painter of landscapes in egg tempera on panel. I use the jewel-like quality of pure pigment color to catch the effects of light and atmosphere in the long hollows of the western Catskills, and am particularly interested in how landscapes are altered by farming, animals, buildings and weather.
Jane Carr’s work will be displayed at her studio, venue #2.
