Artist 2017: Amy Cannon
Amy Cannon, is a longtime resident of Fly Creek, NY. Her carefully-constructed collages, each is a two-dimensional jewel, according to Sydney Waller, owner of the Art Garage in Cooperstown, who has previously shown her work. Ms. Cannon, a graduate of the Parsons School of Design, is also known for her precious metal art jewelry. The collages represent a return to some of the elements and fascinations she has worked with in her collagraph prints from her early days of art making. Ms. Cannon notes that as an artist she wants to “stretch artistic and conceptual boundaries within the realm of collage.” Inspired by some of the Surrealists techniques, she arranges “‘colored strokes of paper’ in unpredictable ways…[that are] intuitively chosen, altered, and applied in a painterly manner to harness her energy through the power of value, texture and color.” She realized her artistic process was more like painting than traditional collage. She has exhibited her work locally, regionally, and nationally including at the Georgia Museum of Art in Athens, GA, Silvermine Guild in New Canaan, CT and The Views in Bala Cynwyd, PA.
Cannon will display her work at The Gallery at Crooked Key Farm, venue #12.
